Nuru envisions a world where rural communities are no longer trapped in cycles of extreme poverty—and where resilience, peace, and prosperity take root.
Working in some of the most fragile regions of sub-Saharan Africa, Nuru partners with local leaders to build strong, locally led organizations that help farmers and rural families thrive, even in the face of conflict and climate change.
Rather than offering short-term aid, Nuru invests in long-term solutions. Over five to seven years, they support local leaders to design and grow independent nonprofits that strengthen rural economies, improve livelihoods, and build climate resilience from the ground up.
Why We Partner
“Nuru has a razor-sharp focus on enabling people who face systemic barriers to move from subsistence farming to agriculture as a sustainable business. This model for economic growth helps to improve individual livelihoods as well as drive overall resilience for communities in times of crisis. We believe programs like Nuru help communities chart their own paths for long-term success.” — Job Change, Associate Program Officer, Helmsley Charitable Trust
Across the border regions of countries like Burkina Faso, Ghana, and Niger, rural communities face growing challenges from climate shocks, food insecurity, and instability. These fragile areas are often overlooked—but they also hold immense potential.

Map of Nuru’s resilience corridor countries
Through its Resilience Corridor initiative, Nuru is helping to connect and strengthen cooperative agribusinesses across these regions. This corridor supports locally driven, climate-smart solutions that demonstrate what’s possible: thriving rural livelihoods, stable food systems, and vibrant local markets—even in the most vulnerable places.
We partner with Nuru because their approach works. By investing in rural resilience and local leadership, they’re addressing the root causes of poverty and instability in a way that lasts.
What Our Partnership Makes Possible
Our partnership helps Nuru scale tools and training that directly improve farmers’ lives and communities’ futures.
One key initiative is Nuru’s collaboration with ignitia, a hyper-local weather forecasting service that delivers predictive weather data via SMS. By expanding access to this technology in Burkina Faso and other Nuru-supported countries, farmers are able to better plan for changing conditions, reduce crop losses, and protect their incomes.

Training session with farmers
Nuru also trains farmers in climate-smart, regenerative agriculture—including techniques like agroforestry, soil restoration, and drought-resilient cropping. These practices not only increase yields and conserve resources but also build long-term resilience for families and communities.
Building a More Resilient Future
With a focus on sustainability, local ownership, and smart climate adaptation, Nuru is proving that smallholder farmers can be at the heart of a more peaceful and food-secure future.
